GHETTO FOODS GALORE

The more fat on it the better…Yes I said it BUMP! All these salads that’s not real food. If you want a life changing experience in your mouth I think its time you got yourself a ghetto snack honey *snap fingers*. Regardless of your background I can grantee, who ever you are, if you drive to the hood and get yourself a hood meal you will discover a whole new world of deliciousness. I’m not one to brag but lets just say if you want a real ghetto snack you need to come to my hood. Mamelodi sure knows how to throw it down when it comes to food. If your up for some good snacks here are a few options the could possibly develop into your new favorite snack.

AMA SHWUMSHWUM

These are called Ama SHWUMSHWUM they may not look like much and probably look quiet ordinary but this is were your wrong. These are not your typical chips Ama SHWUMSHWUM are a delicious delicacy blend with real tomatoes, avocado, gourmet tortilla chips flavored spice that’s so good it will make you want to slap yoh mama, mild salsa, onion, garlic, a pinch of chili spice and a touch of lime which are lightly cooked to perfection to create an amazing crunchy texture. It may seem like a lot but I promise you haven’t lived until you have tried at least a packet of Ama SHWUMSHWUM.

IT’S LIKE THE BEST SNACK EVER

 AMAKIPKIP

It’s no secret that this is by far the local favorite snack in Mamelodi. This colorful delicacy is called Amakipkip (Skopas) it consists food colouring and fresh corn that is hearted up and popped to perfection. What brings the tasty snack to life is the sweet center once you eat the corn. You would be surprise how well the right amount of sugar can mix so well with popcorn. But you know what sucks! There is a certain technique you have to do in order to get the blend just right that only the makers know and we will never know. Trust me I tried to recreate the snack at home and boy was it nasty! One thing I have noticed from eating Amakipkip is the fact that they are incredibly addictive. I refuse to believe that there is anyone that can manage to survive with just eating on packet and if you can u r lying to your brain.

Amakipkip just get me so emotional sometimes

 SPATLO

Oh yea now this is my personal favorite it is the one and only Spatlo (kota). Ladies and gentlemen this is the most ground shacking, tongue twerking ghetto sandwich in the world.

It’s like the best hang over food

If you want a sandwich that has everything you have ever dreamed of you need to get a Mamelodi Spatlo. This is literally a hollow one-quarter loaf of bread that is stacked with chips, Russian, egg, lettuce, polonies, Achaar, cumcmber, cheese, sometimes there is gravy, chilli and the secret ingredient that sets Mamelodi’s Spatlo’s apart from the rest. No one really knows what it is but I don’t mind because whatever it is it ‘’TASTE AWSOME’’.

 CHICKEN KWASAKWASA

In Mamelodi we call this the Chicken KWASAKWASA you know why because its so good it will have you busting out this move.

KWASAKWASA

I know you looking at this dish and you already doubting it but how do you know unless you try it. Chicken Kwasakwasa is deep fried chicken feet its like the ghetto version of a chicken wing. Regardless of what you think I believe that the chicken kwasakwasa taste better then KFC, yes I said it. And lucky for you I know the home version its almost like making the real hood version. In order to make it you need to remove skin from chicken.
claw and place in a resalable plastic bag. Pour sauce over chicken claw, seal bag, and refrigerate to marinate for at least 1 hour, up to 24 hours. The longer the chicken claw marinates, the spicier it will be. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Combine the flour, cornmeal, and salt in another resalable plastic bag. Add the chicken claw, seal bag, and shake to coat. Fry the chicken, uncovered, for 25 to 30 minutes or until juices run clear. Turn occasionally to brown evenly. This recipe is a close second to the real hood chicken kwasakwasa but its better if you go get the real thing. What makes Mamelodi’s chicken kwasakwasa more unique is the fact that we grill ours and what shuts down the competition is the secret seasoning they use. Hooooooo the flames you see is unreal its truly a mouth watering experience.

WHAT WOULD WE DO WITHOUT GHETTO FOOD…
